The development company has begun a pre-application stage of consultation on its plans for the 14 acres of land surrounding the new Brent Civic Centre to the west of Olympic Way.
The plans, which go on display at a public exhibition at the Wembley Plaza Hotel on 14 July, will create a neighbourhood around the Civic Centre, including 1,300 homes located around a new community park. Shops, hotel space, student accommodation and affordable workspace will also be included within the development which in total will be 160,000 sq m. There will also be major improvements to Olympic Way.
Quintain said a planning application will be submitted later this year. It added that the next stage around the Civic Centre complements the existing planning consent at Wembley City, where development is already under way. Wembley Arena has been fully renovated and Arena Square has opened, the first 520 homes have been completed and Quintain said that other building work on site is well advanced.
By September 2013, Quintain will also have created the Hilton International Hotel, developed student accommodation, completed the nine screen cinema and opened a major new retail core including a designer outlet centre.
Nick Shattock, Quintain’s deputy chief executive, said: “The regeneration of Wembley City is already well underway with the first 520 homes completed, Wembley Arena and Arena Square open, pre-construction work underway on the Hilton Hotel and student accommodation, and work due to start shortly on London’s first Designer Outlet Centre alongside a new cinema.
“Our plans respond to the development of the new Brent Civic Centre to create a new neighbourhood, set around a community park with homes, shops, workspace, bars and restaurants, opening up the area for everyone to enjoy”
Councillor Ann John, leader of Brent Council, said: “The regeneration of Wembley is hugely important for the Borough and it is great to see the transformation already taking shape. Our planning policy does seek attractive new shopping at Wembley and it is no surprise to me that the research confirms this desire from local people too.
“I am encouraged that the new Civic Centre is already having an impact as the catalyst for further regeneration and I would encourage local people to come and see the plans for themselves.”
