The Factory Retail Centre, developed by Neinver and designed by Arup in La Coruna, Spain has become the first Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) - certified project in Spain.
Global design firm Arup was the BREEAM assessor and sustainability consultant for this retail project, which has been certified with a ‘good’ rating in the design and procurement stage of BREEAM Europe Retail 2008.
Neinver, a client of Arup in Europe, is a leading international real estate company focusing on real estate development, assets and fund management. According to the latest ranking published by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Neinver is the second largest outlet operator in Europe in terms of square meters of gross leasable area (GLA), and is the largest, based on the total number of centers managed.
Neinver has currently ten projects running in Europe. The Factory Retail Centre in Spain is expected to open at the end of 2010, thus becoming the company’s fifth center in Spain. The first phase of this project will have 12,600 square meter of GLA and 76 top brand shops.
More than ten projects are currently pursuing BREEAM certification in Spain, a signal that this sustainability performance certification is becoming increasingly popular outside of the UK.
